Slow File copies or network drops fix and test.

So this is  quick note for troubleshooting a slow or dropping network over file copying instance. This essentially shows you how to disable SMB signing, only if you are aware it is a security risk. First benchmark your file copies:

Please create a generic file using fsutil file createnew c:\temp\largefile.txt 20000000 (this is 20meg)

  1. verify the time it takes to copy
  2. try different file sizes

Diable the SMB signing- which is in charge of:

  •  Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data
  • Digitally sign communications
  • Samples on how to do this below

Once you have completed the update, restart the server and test again:

Please create a generic file using fsutil file createnew c:\temp\largefile.txt 20000000 (this is 20meg)

  1. verify the time it takes to copy
  2. try different file sizes

Check for WIndows Updates to fix issues. There is a slow FTP issue patch for 2008 R2 which is dated late in 2013. These things come up from time to time so check updates for anything recent.
